Fantasy Baseball Warfare is a great matter to a nation; it is the ground of death and of life; it is the way of survival and of destruction, and must be examined.–Sun Tzu

Part Two of Jeremy’s Worst Trades

Part two of Jeremy’s Worst Trades List 11 – also March 1997- Garret Anderson, Brian Simmons and 1998 4th rd pick (Traded and turned into Shane Mack) for Shane Mack and Bill Taylor – Memorable for the Joel Youngblood-style PTBNL situation. Mack for Mack. And not even Alison Mack. Enjoy that one, Smallville fans.

12 – December 1997 - Jay Buhner, Dean Palmer, Luis Rivas, Jay Witasick and 1998 1st rd pick (Fred McGriff) for Manny Ramirez and Rick Helling. Only Witasick is currently playing of the group acquired for Manny. They would have been better off getting David Palmer. Or maybe Wayne Palmer. Heck, even Sherry Palmer would have worked. Although Wayne isn’t dead so that makes him a better choice. Boy, have I watched too much 24?

13 - April 1998 - Magglio Ordonez for Rich Butler, Alex Sanchez and Brian Rose. Butler, Sanchez and Rose. Wow. It’s easier to just step up and let yourself get slapped in the face.

14 – November 1998 - 1999 1st rd pick (Butch Huskey) and Roy Halladay for 1999 1st rd pick (Ramon Martinez) – I love this one…essentially, Halladay was the throw in for what amounted to a Butch Huskey-Ramon Martinez trade. Excellent.

15 - January 2000 -Bobby Howry and Barry Zito for BJ Surhoff and 2000 5th rd pick (Joe Oliver) – Just to show that I can show my own crappy trades as well as my good ones. Here is when I gave Zito away for a BJ. Sadly, the Surhoff kind.

16 - July 2000 - BJ Ryan for the rights to Denny Neagle – The best part here…not even Denny Neagle, but the rights to him. The only commodity worse than Neagle’s rights is Pets.com stock.

17 - May 2001 - Mark Buehrle and Joe Mays for Mark McLemore and 2002 5th rd pick (Hideki Irabu) – Another one of my brilliant ones…although I did get a nice fat, pus*y toad out of the deal. And Irabu.

18 – July 2001 - Kenny Lofton, Milton Bradley and 2002 4th rd (Justin Duchscherer) for Jay Gibbons, Matt Kinney and 2003 4th rd pick (Joe Valentine) – another bad one from me as we see those toss in picks hurting again. All three of the guys I traded are still playing – some relatively well. None of the ones I got are still playing. Yes, I know Jay Gibbons is still on the Orioles, but when you have two 0-for-20+ streaks in one season, you really don’t count among other players.

19 - April 2004 - Jose Guillen, Carlos Febles, Jeremi Gonzalez, BJ Surhoff, and Timo Perez for Frank Catalanotto, Ted Lilly, Jhonny Peralta, Eric Young and a 2007 2nd rd pick (Eric Hurley) – I get my BJ revenge here and the best part is the future pick tossed in turns out to be a potential ace in Hurley.

20 - July 2004 - Johan Santana, Jorge Julio, Casey Kotchman, Eric Young, Dee Brown, Travis Lee and Chris Shelton for Vernon Wells, Rafael Palmeiro, Ricardo Rodriguez, and Jolbert Cabrera – My worst trade ever for last. Granted, Wells is good, but boy did I sell badly with Santana. My excuse – I was winning the league by a fairly large margin and my pitching staff was quite strong, but my offense was not. Santana did not start his crazy run to becoming the best SP in baseball until AFTER this trade was made. Of course. Although I did get Kotchman back at one point and sold him for five very good draft choices during this off-season – two of which have been made are Kurt Suzuki and Garrett Olson.

So that is the awful 20 – probably not as much fun as a VH1 of E! Top 20 Celebrity Boob Job list or anything like that, but enough to pass your time for a bit while you should be working. That’s all for now!
