Fantasy Baseball Warfare is a great matter to a nation; it is the ground of death and of life; it is the way of survival and of destruction, and must be examined.–Sun Tzu

Giants v. Brewers Game Notes

I attended the Ben Sheets complete game shutout today, and thought I would let you in on a few things I saw/noticed. Of course, Ben Sheets dominated. He struck out all three batters in the first inning, and that really got the fans going. I believe two of the three strikeouts were looking.

Sheets went on to complete the game with 8 strikeouts, most of which came in the first few innings to help the Brewers complete the sweep.

Eugenio Velez has accquired a buzz around him after his solid spring training, and watching him play in person was more impressive.

He displayed a great glove with a lot of speed in right field today (just one of the multiple positions he is able to play). He fan in to make at least one great catch to help Barry Zito get out of trouble.

Zito was able to cositently work himself into jams and give up a few sacrifice fly balls and a solo shots to Ryan Braun and Gabe Kapler. Braun’s traveled over 400 ft, where I believe Kapler’s went 397.

I don’t know much about Kapler, but he stole a base rather easily, as did Corey Hart who now has three on the year.

Brad Hennessey was prevented the Brewers from scoring in the 6th, but then got hit pretty bad in the 7th. If I counted right, the Giants only had between two or three strikeouts between their whole staff, all of which were from Zito.

Defensively, the Giants weren’t too sound. Two errors came early in the game, but after that there weren’t any close calls. Rickie Weeks however, made a spectacular throw after fielding a ball over second base; if I were to describe it (which I’m sure SportsCenter will) was a fade away throw, his back going towards left field as he barely got whoever was batting out at first.

J.J. Hardy has still yet to prove himself to me, after the 30 or so games I’ve seem him play in. Last year he was good for a few months supplying power, but I recognize him more for his glove. Out of all of the guys to walk, they walked him twice, but he didn’t manage to score.

Other than that, I don’t recall anything else worth writing about. I attend about 10-15 Brewers games each year, so I’ll keep you updated when I’ll be going next.
