Last night Jon Garland recorded a win in his first start for the Angels, working eight full innings to give up six hits and one run. He didn’t throw any strikeouts, but you can’t expect too many from him (His K/9 for 2005-2007: 4.68, 4.77, 4.23)–and anyway, he only gave up one walk (a promising sign from a pitcher who had a 1.75 BB/9 two years ago).
Also, in the same game, young catcher Mike Napoli hit a solo home run–a good start on the 12-19 most projections have him slated for this year.
