Fantasy Baseball Generals

Fantasy Baseball Warfare is a great matter to a nation; it is the ground of death and of life; it is the way of survival and of destruction, and must be examined.–Sun Tzu

Padres starter Randy Wolf gave up only a single hit in his appearance last night against the Rockies. In the first game between the teams since last year’s wild-card tiebreaker, Wolf went into the seventh inning before giving up his first hit, a single by Colorado’s Brad Hawpe. Along the way, Wolf walked four and struck out nine. It was his first win after three strong starts to the season–he’s apparently doing just fine after shoulder surgery in the off-season, pitching to the tune of 18 strikeouts with a 1.42 ERA and 0.89 WHIP. Kevin Kouzmanoff kept his strong spring going by hitting three-for-four with two RBI on the night. He’s leading the Padres with a .333 batting average, but his streak might not last long–even the most generous pre-season projections have him batting a .303 and hitting maybe 20 HR.

Much like the Tigers, the Rockies are off to a rough start this season. The team is 5-8 and at the bottom of the NL West, while fantasy favorites Brad Hawpe and Troy Tulowitzki are batting .222 and .149, respectively.
