Geovany Soto went four-for-five in the Cubs’ win over the Pirates last night, including two doubles and a two-run home run. The performance brought his season batting average up to .333, and his RBI total to 8. Rich Hill started the game for Chicago, but after giving up three runs in the first inning, he could only last through the third, throwing three strikeouts and four walks, and giving up three runs. The win went to reliever Jon Lieber, who lasted four scoreless innings before handing the game over to Bob Howry and Kerry Wood.
Nate McLouth scored the first run for the Pirates, off a single from second baseman Freddy Sánchez. McLouth was two-for-five for the game, giving him a .391 average thus far.
