Prince Fielder’s two-run home run won yesterday’s extra innings game for the Brewers in St. Louis. It was Fielder’s first home run for the season, and long overdue for the man who slugged 50 HR last year, and who is projected to hit anywhere from 33 on up this year. Fielder went two-for-five in the game, also hitting an RBI double in the top of the eighth to tie the game. The Brewers’ lead was saved by Eric Gagne, who closed out the game with a hit, a walk, and a strikeout, and who has collected four saves now after an early dismal performance.
Milwaukee’s rookie starter Manny Parra struggled through four innings, giving up five hits, five walks, and all three of St. Louis’ runs, while striking out three. Two runs for the Cardinals were knocked in by their starter Kyle Lohse, who pitched a strong seven innings to give up five hits, no walks, and two runs, before the bullpen lost the game for him.
