The Fantasy Roundtable-Trading Errors to Avoid

This week the Fantasy Roundtable discusses what mistakes owners must avoid when negotiating trades.  The Roundtable Experts from the various websites seem to agree that looking only at your own team’s needs is the biggest mistake, but there are plenty more that are mentioned.

This week our friend David Chase from Brock for Broglio hosts the Fantasy Roundtable.  He posed the question, “what three non-obvious mistakes must be avoided when negotiating trades.” The answers are here.

Here are some of the interesting nuggets:

1. Virtually all of the experts advise that failing to look at how you can help your partner is the biggest mistake.

2. Tim Dierkes of RotoAuthority echoes something I wrote about last year; namely that the “large trade” is a disaster that should be avoided. Links to my articles are here and here.

3. Rob Reed at Baseball Geeks discusses the ethics of trading:

Lastly, I’m a big believer in league integrity.  I have heard on a podcast more than once and read on a few fantasy blogs suggesting that I take advantage of new players to the league who may not understand the game.  For me, this is the fantasy equivalent of stealing a base when you have a 12 run lead.  Purely bush league and a mistake in principle.

It is an illuminating article and each expert comes at things from a different tack.
