Daniel Cabrera turned in a complete game yesterday and won it, holding Kansas City to three hits in Baltimore’s 4-1 win.
It was Cabrera’s third win of the season, and his fourth career win against the Royals, who have yet to beat the Orioles in a game started by Cabrera (Baltimore is 7-0 over Kansas City in Cabrera-started games). This time around, he struck out seven and gave up one walk, improving his ERA to 3.54 and his WHIP to 1.20. In his eight starts this season, Cabrera is posting a 5.74 K/9 and 4.05 BB/9, while benefiting from a .226 BABIP. If you want to take a look at his xFIP-ERA, it’s at 0.85, suggesting, along with the BABIP, that Cabrera’s due for a regression, especially considering his near-1:1 K:BB ratio.
Nick Markakis got involved in each of the Orioles’ four runs, crossing the plate on a wild pitch in the first inning, and knocking a three-run homer in the third. So far he bats .272/.397/.869 with 7 home runs, 17 RBI, and 6 SB.
