We’re nearing the All-Star Break and I thought now would be a good time to take a look at the minor leagues. All this week I’ll be checking in on the leaders in the various skill categories for pitchers and hitters and posting my comments as usual. Please keep in mind that I have not actually seen any of these players play, so these will be strictly statistical-based analyses. I might be able to find a scouting report here and there that I will quote, but that’s about it. Feel free to send me requests for specific minor leaguers to take a statistical look at.

Sure, he was actually ranked 11th in the Double-A K% leaders. Not sure why I didn’t comment on him, since he has been a well known prospect for years. It’s surprising to see he’s still only 21.
Anyway, after a terrible showing in Double-A last year, he’s back showing why he’s considered a top prospect. His GB% is back up to 50%, which is right in line with where it’s been at previous levels, with the exception coming during the poor Double-A showing last year.
He still needs to work on his control, and his strikeout rate, although solid, isn’t at the level of a real exciting prospect. If he could maintain a GB% around 50%, though, he won’t be hurt as much by Citizens Bank Park, and the strikeouts will assure he has some fantasy value.
I don’t think he’ll become a star, but I think he’s more ready to contribute than Gio Gonzalez right now.
