I am excited to announce that I have been invited to participate in the inaugural Razzball Fantasy League. Even playing in 4 other traditional fantasy leagues couldn’t stop me from accepting the invitation.

So what is Razzball? To put it simply, it’s similar to your typical fantasy league, but instead of drafting the best players, you draft who you expect to be the worst. For those who remember the old HACKING MASS contest at Baseball Prospectus, it’s quite similar. The full rules can be found here.

The roster is close to the standard 14/9, except with only 1 catcher, making it 13/9. Categories for hitters are: AB (the higher the better), R (lower), RBI (lower), HR (lower), K (higher), and AVG (lower). Categories for pitchers are: IP (the higher the better), L (higher), HR allowed (higher), ERA (higher), WHIP (higher), and Ks (lower). There are some minimums and maximums to keep track of that are detailed in the link above.

Obviously with this being the first ever league of this format, it’s difficult to formulate the best strategy. I have some ideas, which I will not divulge out of fear my competitors will be reading this! So I ask for some help from the readers- Do you have some ideas on how I should draft? How about some players you expect to suck it up, but somehow keep getting their ABs or Innings? Any late-round sleepers you like? How about your top picks at each position?
