C.C. Sabathia took until his fourth start to have a good outing, winning his first of the season in Kansas City yesterday. C.C. pitched six innings to give up four runs and two walks, while striking out eleven and surrendering no runs. Kansas City’s only run came in the bottom of the eighth, when Alex Gordon hit an RBI single off Indians reliever Jensen Lewis. Meanwhile, Cleveland scored fifteen runs, with home runs from Jhonny Peralta, David Dellucci, and Casey Blake, who hit a grand slam in the top of the fourth on his way to a four-for-four, two double, six RBI performance. The dominating start improved Sabathia’s season line, but his woeful previous outings means it still doesn’t look good: 1-3, 10.13 ERA, 2.17 WHIP.

The starter for Kansas City was Gil Meche, who struggled through one out in the third inning before being pulled; in that time he gave up nine hits and eight runs, bringing his ERA to 8.00 for the season.
