A rough start from Brewers starter Manny Parra combined with a blown save by Eric Gagne to send Milwaukee’s game against St. Louis into extra innings yesterday. In a rematch of his last start against the Cardinals’ Kyle Lohse, Parra struggled again, pitching five innings to give up nine hits, three runs, and three walks, while striking out two. He’s now 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA in four starts. Gagne entered the game in the ninth with a one-run lead and promptly hit the first batter, Cesar Izturis, with a pitch. Izturis eventually scored to tie the game, and the game went to the bottom of the twelfth, when Gabe Kapler knocked in Gabe Gross to win it for the Brewers. Gagne now holds a 8.31 ERA, and as many blown saves as saves, each at four.
St. Louis starter Kyle Lohse didn’t have an easy start for his part; he gave up eight hits, four runs, and two walks over four innings, though he did raise his own RBI total to three when he knocked in the first run for the Cardinals in the top of the second.
