Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens, acquired in the offseason trade with the Tigers for Edgar Renteria (and the subject of a recent discussion here), started his season with a win yesterday, throwing five strikeouts and one walk in a little over five innings. It didn’t hurt that Mark Teixeira hit a two-run homer and Yunel Escobar a three-run, too.
On the other side, Pirates pitcher Tom Gorzelanny went six innings to give up three runs and strike out three.
