Carl Crawford and Evan Longoria each had high-speed run-scoring, base-stealing performances yesterday in Tampa Bay’s 5-3 win over Toronto.
Crawford, who started the first two weeks of the season in a hitting lull, extended a hitting streak to ten games with a three-for-five, one run, one RBI performance, raising his batting average to .302 ( ten days ago it was .228). Longoria went two-for-two with a sacrifice fly and a walk, hitting a double and a triple to raise his average to .282. Crawford stole two bases in the game, his sixth and seventh of the season, while Longoria stole his season–and major-league–first. Andy Sonnanstine was the winning pitcher; he went an out into the sixth inning, giving up six hits, three runs, and two walks along the way.
Dustin McGowan started the game for Toronto, and had a rough time of it, lasting only four innings to give up four hits and seven walks, along with four earned runs. His record is at 1-2 with a 4.18 ERA and 1.71 WHIP.
