Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado hit his first home run of the season yesterday, a solo shot off of the Phillies’ Jamie Moyer that ultimately proved futile in the Mets’ 2-5 loss. Delgado is off to s good start in spite of the usual lingering worries about injury–he’s hitting .375 with 7 runs and 3 RBI. The other run for the Mets came from Carlos Beltran, who was knocked home by a single from Ryan Church.

Phillies second baseman Chase Utley was hit by pitches three times in the game, tying a Major League record and adding to a wild-throwing day. Including Utley’s plunks, there were 18 recorded HBP (HBPs? HsBP? HsBPs?) yesterday, including two each for Arizona’s Conor Jackson and Chris Snyder. The total number of HBP in the major leagues so far this season is 56, which means yesterday accounts for a full third of the numbers.
