A week shy of his forty-second birthday, Greg Maddux posted his first win of the season yesterday, as the Padres beat the Giants 8-4. Maddux went seven innings and gave up only three hits, a run, and two walks; he struck out five. On the San Francisco side, starter Matt Cain, considered something of a bust this year by a couple generals, could only make it to the fifth inning, and gave up seven hits, five walks, and four earned runs, despite striking out five himself.
First baseman Adrian Gonzalez went four-for-five for the Padres, knocking in a two-run homerun in the first.
