Johan Santana pitched a solid game and hit two doubles in New York’s 7-2 win over the Nationals yesterday. Santana went seven innings to hold Washington to seven hits, two runs, and a walk, while striking out four. He also went two-for-two while drawing a walk of his own–the outing raised his batting average to .231 and his pitching line to 3-2 with a 3.12 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP. Looks like the move to the National League is working out great for him. Catcher Brian Schneider knocked in a run with a groundout in the sixth, bringing his RBI total to 12 and his batting average to .309.

The woeful Nationals couldn’t put together many hits in the game, with the only extra-base hit coming from their own starter, Tim Redding, who hit a two-out, two-RBI double in the fourth.
