Yesterday’s rain-delayed matchup between Baltimore’s Daniel Cabrera and Chicago’s Javier Vázquez ended up a wash.
Vázquez pitched the better game, going eight innings to give up four hits, one run, and one walk, while striking out seven (compared to Cabrera’s six-inning-and-an-out, four hit, two run, seven walk, two strikeout performance), but his efforts were wasted by White Sox closer Bobby Jenks’ second blown save of the season, wherein he gave up a double and a steal to Brian Roberts, followed by an RBI single to Melvin Mora.
After a scoreless tenth inning, White Sox reliever Scott Linebrink gave up a solo home run to pinch-hitting Baltimore catcher Ramón Hernández, and George Sherrill was brought in to close out the game. He, however, gave up a solo home run of his own to Juan Uribe (his first blown save of the year), and the game remained tied in the twelfth inning, when it was suspended for rain.
White Sox left fielder Carlos Quentin went three-for-four in the long game, notching his sixth home run and twentieth RBI of the year, while raising his batting average to .312, second to Jermaine Dye’s .316 to lead the team.
