The Tigers continued their woeful streak yesterday, getting only five hits (all singles) while Daisuke Matsuzaka and the Red Sox shut them out, extending Detroit’s record to 0-7 (you may want to see Patrick’s take on that streak, posted yesterday). Matsuzaka pitched into the seventh inning, giving four hits and four walks while striking out seven. Hideki Okajima finished the game with a perfect two-strikeout ninth.
In a summation of how things just aren’t quite working for Detroit, leadoff hitter Édgar Rentería was the only Tiger not to strikeout–though he also couldn’t get a hit on four at-bats.
