Tim Lincecum came out the winner in a 1-0 duel with San Diego’s Chris Young last night. Lincecum pitched through an out in the seventh inning, giving up four hits and five walks along the way, while striking out nine and holding the Padres scoreless. The San Francisco bullpen held the shutout through the rest of the game, giving up only one more hit and two walks on the way to Brian Wilson’s seventh save of the season (just as many as Joe Nathan, and more than Eric Gagne, Bobby Jenks, Mariano Rivera, or Huston Street). Meanwhile, Chris Young pitched just fine, going seven innings to give up only three walks and two hits, one of which was a solo home run to Rich Aurilla. Young struck out ten Giants batters.
The outing brought Lincecum’s record to 4-0 with a 1.23 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and a league-leading 36 strikeouts.
