Arizona’s Brandon Webb became the first starter to reach five wins yesterday in his outing against the Giants. Webb pitched six innings to give up nine hits, three runs, and two walks. He struck out seven and helped his own win along with a two-out, two-RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, driving home Justin Upton and Mark Reynolds. Eric Byrnes knocked Webb home with a single two batters later, which was the end of the line for San Francisco’s starter, who was Barry Zito, if you were curious. Zito’s two-outs-into-the-third outing accounted for all the Diamondbacks’ runs in the game, as he gave up five over six hits and three walks. It also provided a satisfying symmetry to the night, as his record dropped to 0-5 at the same time Webb’s rose to 5-0.
While we’re on the subject of fives, Diamondbacks closer Brandon Lyon brought his season total to five saves at the end of the game.
