I couldn’t let an opportunity pass to mention my continued campaign for Javier Vázquez to win the AL Cy Young–he pitched well yesterday, though maybe not great, striking out eight while giving up seven hits, three runs, and a walk. After pitching through seven innings, his win was ensured by a five-run bottom of the seventh for the White Sox, capped by a grand slam from Joe Crede (if you’re keeping count, that’s three grand slams in two days of MLB play). Chicago’s runs in the seventh were all batted in off the pitches of Pat Neshek, who had been enjoying a great spring beforehand–no runs in all his appearances, including spring training.
Carlos Gomez and Joe Mauer each got a hit in the game; they’re leading the Twins with a .333 and .308 batting average, respectively.
