A day after hitting two solo home runs in a game, Ryan Braun did it again last night in Milwaukee’s 8-3 win over St. Louis.
Braun, who is hitting .288 on the season, now with nine home runs after the four added in the past two days, hit .379 in the past week with six runs and 4 RBI. The recent power surge is a welcome change to owners of Braun; he was batting .273 in April with three home runs. So far this season, he’s striking out at a 19.9% rate, which isn’t too pretty, but it’s at least a bit better than last year’s 24.8%. Unfortunately, he’s only walking at an anemic 4.9%, worse than last year’s already bad 6.0%, and the reason his .321 OBP is only a hair above his average.
In yesterday’s game, Eric Gagne made his first appearance as Milwaukee’s non-closer, entering the game in the seventh to pitch two innings, wherein he gave up two hits, two walks, a run, and a wild pitch, while striking out one. It wasn’t disastrous, and not bad enough to spoil starter Dave Bush’s first win of the season (Bush is now 1-4 with a 6.06 ERA and 1.46 WHIP).
