Morning Roundup: Braun’s Brawn

Ryan Braun hit two solo home runs yesterday in Milwaukee’s 5-3 win over St. Louis.

Braun’s two-for-four, two RBI performance brought his batting line to .281/.311/.814, with seven home runs and 25 RBI on the year. Braun hit well last week after starting the year in an April funk (especially funky compared to his ROY-earning performance last year), and if you’re wondering what more to expect from Braun, Eric Seidman at FanGraphs has put together an informative analysis of his hitting.

Meanwhile, In a matchup between two teams who are currently benching their top-of-the-majors-in-blown-saves closers Eric Gagne and Jason Isringausen (5 each), the ninth-inning closer duties came down to the Brewers’ Salomon Torres and Brian Shouse, who combined for a two-hit, one run ninth (Torres got the earned run, Shouse the save–his first of the year). The tragedy continues.
