Brandon Webb improved to 8-0 in eight starts on the season in Arizona’s 8-3 win over Philadelphia yesterday.
Webb pitched a complete game to give up six hits, no walks, and two earned runs, while striking out four. His ERA improved to 2.41, and his WHIP to 1.00. Webb, who leads the majors in wins (two more than the next-highest AL totals, and three more than the nearest NL pitchers), was left on the mound after the Phillies scored two one-out runs in the ninth, and promptly finished the game with a double play off Geoff Jenkins’ grounder to the mound.
Center fielder Chris Young hit a two-run home run for the Diamondbacks, his second home run in two days, and his eighth of the season. Young’s batting numbers are .248/.342/.817 so far this year, with three stolen bases to his name. Justin Upton hit a solo home run in the seventh inning, his sixth so far. His numbers are a little more pleasing .344/.407/.973.
