Dioner Navarro’s bat is hot this week, but it wasn’t enough to help the Rays overcome the Yankees last night in a 2-1 loss that stopped Tampa Bay’s six-game winning streak.

Navarro went two-for-three last night, and knocked in the Rays’ lone run with an RBI single in the seventh that brought Evan Longoria home. Navarro’s now batting .387 this year, and .458 in the last seven days. He has one home run and thirteen RBI this season.

Mike Mussina was the starter for the Yankees, and he gave up the only run to Tampa in the game, while striking out four and giving up five hits. Ross Ohlendorf, Joba Chamberlain, and Mariano Rivera finished out the game, with Joba striking out three and Rivera earning his eleventh save of the season.

Robinson Cano finally got some hits, and got them all in one game, going four-for-four with an RBI single to bring his batting average to .205. Eleven days ago he was at .150, so here’s to hoping the worst is behind him.
