Jeremy Bonderman made it through two outs into the eighth inning yesterday, recording a win as the Tigers went 6-2 over the Yankees.
Bonderman gave up five hits and two runs, and though he only struck out one batter, he at least walked only two in the game–previously, he had walked 21 in 27.2 innings, which is why his WHIP currently sits at 1.60.
Plácido Polanco gave a big boost to Bonderman’s bid for a win, going two-for-five with two solo home runs, his first two of the season. Melky Cabrera and Jason Giambi were the only Yankees able to knock in runs, Giambi by hitting a sacrifice fly and Cabrera an RBI single, both in the first inning, before Bonderman was able to ground out and pop out most of the rest of the game.
