Gil Meche and the Kansas City bullpen combined to four-hit Cleveland in a shutout performance yesterday.
Meche pitched seven innings, giving up only four hits and no walks while striking out four, to improve his record to 2-4 with a 5.98 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. Leo Núñez and Joakim Soria then each pitched a perfect inning to close out the game for the Royals, and to bring Soria’s save total to 8 and keep his ERA at 0.00.
Aaron Laffey pitched well himself for the Indians, going seven innings to give up four hits, two walks, and a run while striking out five. Though he has yet to win a game in his two starts this season, his ERA is 2.84 and his WHIP 0.79.
Though no Indians hitters hit for extra bases in the game, Ryan Garko, Brandon’s recent pick for chance-taking, did go two-for-three in his trips to the plate.
