Johan Santana and Dan Haren both pitched solid outings last night, but neither figured in the Mets’ 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks.
Santana pitched six innings to give up six hits, one run, and four walks, striking out eight, while Haren went six to give up three hits, one walk, and two runs, striking out seven for himself. Mark Reynolds’ RBI single off Mets reliever Joe Smith in the bottom of the seventh tied the game at 2-2, and meant the winning (Jorge Sosa, 4-1 now) and losing (Chad Qualls, 0-2) pitchers would be relievers.
One of Haren’s earned runs came from a solo home run by David Wright in the top of the fourth, bringing his season total to 6 HR and 26 RBI on a .284 average. In the bottom of the fourth, Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder hit an RBI triple, his first three-base hit of his career.
