Stephen Drew knocked in enough runs for the Diamondbacks yesterday to ensure Randy Johnson’s start was an 8-4 win against the Rockies. Drew gave Johnson the same kind of help the last time he started.

Johnson pitched five innings to give up nine hits and four runs, while striking out four, and brought his record to 3-1 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.48 WHIP, along with 32 total strikeouts. Then the Arizona bullpen shut Colorado down for the Big Unit, three-hitting the Rockies over the remaining four innings, thanks to the combined shutout efforts of Juan Cruz, Chad Qualls, Tony Peña, and Brandon Lyon.  Johnson’s win handed Colorado starter Jeff Francis his fourth loss of the season. He’s winless so far this year, and is suffering from a 6.27 ERA and 1.63 WHIP.

Stephen Drew is hitting .293 with two home runs and nine RBI over his last ten games, accounting for nearly half of his season numbers, which are .269, five, and seventeen, respectively.
