Edinson Volquez earned his sixth win and Joey Votto knocked his eight home run yesterday in Cincinnati’s 5-3 win over Florida yesterday.
Volquez pitched six innings to give up seven hits, one run, and two walks, while striking out five, and improved to 6-1 with a 1.12 ERA and 1.26 WHIP. He’s struck out fifty seven (11.1 K/9) and has given up but one home run to date.
The Marlins inched closer to the Reds’ lead after Volquez left the game, with an RBI single from Dan Uggla and a solo home run from pinch hitter Cody Ross, but Votto kept the fish at bay with a solo home run in the seventh inning that capped a two-for-three game. He’s now batting .288/.559/.917 for the season, and has hit four home runs and six RBI in the last seven days.
