Morning Roundup: Home Run Hanley

Hanley Ramirez hit his third home run in two days yesterday in Florida’s 5-7 loss to Atlanta, but it was overshadowed by Chipper Jones’ four hundredth career homer.
Ramirez went one-for-four in the game, knocking his twelfth home run and extending his batting line to .296/.388/.901. Ramirez has been nothing but good this year, going .333/.405/1.016 in the first month of the season, and .260/.365/.719 in May. He’s well on pace to at least match last year’s 29 home runs, though with 15 stolen bases to this point in the season, he might not reach the total of 51 he set last year.

Chipper Jones, meanwhile, is the best hitter in the league. His .418 batting average far outstrips the .382 from the next closest batter, Lance Berkman, who is having a superstar year of his own. Jones’ unholy batting line is now .418/.498/1.165, and his 14 HR on the season is well on the way toward the 20-25 most projections put him down for, and also toward last year’s 29. For good measure, he’s stolen a base, too.
